Chamberlain-Oacoma Ice Fishing Tournament

The Chamberlain-Oacoma Ice Fishing Tournament was started in 2009 by a few fishermen who wanted to bring a fun, enjoyable tournament to the area. This isn't your typical ice fishing tournament; this is a tournament founded by fishermen for fishermen. Our tournament has 100% payback and prizes ranging from fishing rods & ice augers to full blown fishing shacks.

Rules & Regulations

  • Eligibility: $80 per two-person team. Must have valid SD fishing license and be 18 years of age unless accompanied by a parent or guardian
  • Fish Limits : State regulations for amount: Can weigh-in 6 fish (2 fish 20 inches and over and 4 under 20 inches). All fish must be presented in your numbered bucket of fresh water. Fish CANNOT be frozen. All fish must be tagged when caught and kept; 8 tags allowed.
  • Boundaries: Railroad bridge to south end of Carpenter Bottom.
  • Fishing Hours: – 8am to 7pm. Your numbered bucket will be given to you Friday night at the rules meeting. Weigh-in starts at 5pm at Swenson Brothers Marine, with the awards ceremony to follow at AmericInn Lodge & Suites at 8pm.
  • If you are late, you are disqualified: Your numbered bucket will be given to you Friday night and must be brought back at the end of the day Saturday.
  • Bad Weather: Barring bad weather the fishing tournament will be held on Sunday. If you are unable to fish on Sunday, a full refund will be issued. (Only in case of bad weather)

  • Anglers cannot be on the ice until 8am on Saturday and must be off the ice by 4pm the evening of the rules meeting.
  • Both team members must be within a 25 yard radius of their center point or occupied shack. Right-of-way teams are the first teams to any given area. A 25 yard distance between teams must be maintained unless right-of-way team approves of shorter distance.
  • Anglers must stay away from all bridges and pressure ridges. Anglers should be aware of ice thickness at all times when navigating.
  • You are the best marshal. We’ll have marshals on the ice, but if you see anything suspicious, let event officials know. Call 605-730-0216 if you have any problems.by a parent or guardian.
  • Four wheelers, electronics and ice shacks (no more than 2 ice shacks per team) are allowed.
  • The “Golden Rule” will be used as the official tournament ruler. Fish will be measured on both sides and tails will be pinched. Any mangled, mashed or mauled fish will be weighed at the discretion of the weight-in official and tournament coordinator. All decisions of the measure master, weight master and tournament coordinator are final.
  • Fishing will be closed between the railroad bridge and the interstate bridge.
  • We will have people driving around checking anglers at all times just to make sure we don’t have any problems.
  • Anglers must cleanup fishing area!

Although we'd love to have every angler from South Dakota and beyond, we only have a 99 spots that we can fill in the tournament. In years past, we have unfortunately had to turn away anglers because our quota had been met. We hope that everyone that wants to fish with us can, but please try to get your registration in as early as possible.
